Dizziness and collapse

Common reasons for dizziness and loss of consciousness could be either due to problems with the heart or the nervous system. Rapid heart rates or very slow heart rates with pauses are cardiac causes for dizziness and collapse. The history will provide direction on what type of tests you will require. Basic investigations will include an ECG, ambulatory ECG and echocardiogram to look at the heart function and the heart valves. Other tests can include a treadmill test or a tilt table test.
